MuniEnvironmental Partners with the City of Corona for Seven-year Audit

The City of Corona has engaged MuniEnvironmental for a new contract: an audit of all tonnage recycling and disposal reporting, franchise fee payments, customer billing and rate increases for the seven-year period from 2009 through 2016.

“Municipalities owe it to their constituents and financial futures to perform audits of their contracted services,” says MuniEnvironmental CEO and Principal Consultant Jeff Duhamel. “By seeking a seven-year audit of their franchise waste hauler, the City of Corona has demonstrated its dedication to financial success.”

MuniEnvironmental’s audit for the City of Corona will determine if the City’s franchise waste hauler has complied with its franchise agreement and related obligations. To determine compliance, MuniEnvironmental will audit the waste hauler’s records by assessing financial reports, rate calculations, fee payments, reimbursements and all tonnage-related reports, such as disposal, recycling, landfill diversion, transformation, street sweeping and all other services provided to the City.

“By partnering with MuniEnvironmental, Corona has positioned itself to potentially recover revenue. If any discrepancies are found during the audit, the City will be able to invest the recovered revenue back into its community. Proactive measures such as MuniEnvironmental’s audits ensure the financial success of cities,” adds Duhamel.

Throughout the auditing process, MuniEnvironmental will provide periodic progress reports indicating errors/omissions detected, documented and corrected. At the end of the audit, MuniEnvironmental will submit a draft findings report for the franchise waste hauler and City to review. Following feedback from both parties, a final report containing all findings will be prepared.
